A VOICE FOR EVERY ELIGIBLE VOTER

Your vote.
Your voice.
No extra barriers.

Voting is a right. An ID requirement shouldn’t stand between an eligible voter and the ballot box.

Tell lawmakers: stop voter ID requirements and protect equal access to the ballot.

OHIO · U.S. SENATE

Sherrod Brown

Opposes the federal SAVE Act.

The ACLU of Ohio’s 2026 candidate guide documents Brown’s opposition to the SAVE Act and his call to remove unnecessary voting barriers. We endorse his defense of ballot access.

This evidence concerns the SAVE Act, including proof-of-citizenship restrictions; it does not establish opposition to every voter ID rule.

Abdul El-Sayed

Explicitly opposes mandatory voter ID barriers.

His campaign platform opposes mandatory voter ID laws that create unnecessary barriers and supports automatic registration, early voting, and no-reason absentee voting. We endorse that commitment to making voting easier.

His campaign’s “Making Voting Easier” platform provides the basis for this endorsement.

NEVADA · GOVERNOR

Aaron Ford

Opposes Nevada’s voter ID initiative.

In an October 5, 2026 interview, Ford said he does not support the voter ID initiative and described it as a threat to eligible voters’ access. We endorse his opposition to that requirement.

This position concerns Nevada’s ballot initiative. It is not a claim about every possible identification policy.

OHIO · GOVERNOR

Amy Acton

Supports Ohio’s Issue 3 voter ID amendment.

Acton backed placing Ohio’s existing photo ID requirement in the state constitution, according to August 2026 reporting. We oppose her candidacy on this issue because we oppose entrenching voter ID barriers.

She also called for free, convenient access to identification and said eligible Ohioans should not lose their vote for lack of ID.

02 / WHY IT MATTERS

A simple requirement.
A complicated reality.

An ID can be easy to take for granted. Getting the right one can take money, documents, transportation, and time.

01

“Free” ID can still come at a cost.

The ACLU points to costs for underlying documents, travel, and time away from work—even when the ID itself is free.

02

The barriers aren’t shared equally.

The League of Women Voters explains how limited transportation, missing documents, and restrictions on accepted IDs can keep eligible citizens from participating.

Confusing rules are another obstacle.

VoteRiders’ research found widespread uncertainty about photo ID rules. Clear information and accessible voting procedures matter.

03 / BEHIND THE NUMBERS

Real barriers.
Millions of people.

Findings from research released in 2024 by VoteRiders and partners, based on a national survey fielded in fall 2023.

34.5M+

A gap in ID access

People without a driver’s license or state ID, or with one missing their current name or address.

This is not a count of people prevented from voting.
19%

Cost and paperwork get in the way

Of Americans without a driver’s license, 19% cited economic or bureaucratic barriers to obtaining one.

1 in 2+

Rules aren’t clear to everyone

More than half of Americans in states requiring photo ID for in-person voting did not know that requirement.

Survey estimates describe document access and knowledge, not a prediction of votes lost. Accepted IDs and alternatives vary by state. Read the research and methodology

A FEW IMPORTANT DETAILS

Informed action.
A stronger voice.

What is this petition asking for?

We ask federal and state lawmakers to oppose new voter ID requirements and repeal existing voter ID barriers, while keeping accessible safeguards for election integrity. This is an advocacy petition, not an official ballot initiative or voter-registration form. Signatures are stored for the campaign; they are not automatically sent to lawmakers.

Is photo ID the same as proof of citizenship?

No. Photo ID rules concern documents accepted to identify a voter. Documentary proof-of-citizenship rules concern evidence of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or passport. They are distinct policies. The statistics above describe ID access, not access to citizenship documents.

How do I check the rules where I vote?

Follow the current requirements for your jurisdiction. Visit your state election office for official guidance. VoteRiders also provides ID information and assistance. Signing this petition does not change existing voting rules.
